Mountaineering boots

Go to hiking jargon overview

Heavy and very stiff boots built to handle heavy loads and to accept crampons (?) on a glacial trail or during ice climbing. In fact, their construction and insulation make them uncomfortable for easier hiking conditions.

They are usually used for:

  • climbing iced waterfalls or snowy peaks (e.g. peaks over 4,000 meters/13,136 ft);
  • traversing extreme glacial trails or rocky and snowy paths.
